It’s our last official class day of 2009!  Third period started watching the video The Great Gatsby.  Fifth period had the opportunity to watch the swing choir winter show.

There is no assignment over break.  Happy Holidays!

Tuesday, December 15-Wednesday, December 16

Because our Great Gatsby test is Thursday, we spent both days preparing for the test by discussing themes and important plot events and by discussing challenging study guide questions.

The test will be 50 objective questions and will include four essays.  Students were given more specific information about the essay on Monday.

Friday, December 11

We’re baaaaack 🙂  

In order to efficiently resume our discussion of The Great Gatsby, we broke into small groups and moved from station to station to cover a variety of topics related to the novel.  Two handouts to help prepare for the unit test were also given out.

Reminder:  Chapter 9 is due on Monday.  The test is on Wednesday.

Monday, December 7

After SSR, students discussed the significance of the events in Chapters 5 and 6.

Reminder: As previously assigned, Chapter 7 is due on Wednesday and Chapter 8 is due on Friday. In the event of a school cancellation, Chapter 7 will be due on Thursday and Chapter 8 will be due on Friday.

Friday, December 4

After taking a vocabulary quiz over lesson 6, we continued our discussion of Chapters 3 and 4 of The Great Gatsby.

Assignment:  Read chapters 5 and 6 for Monday.

Thursday, December 3

After taking a quiz over chapters 3 and 4, we reviewed vocabulary words from Lesson 6 for the quiz tomorrow.  Next, we began discussing chapters 3 and 4.

Assignment:  Study for the vocabulary quiz.  Be up to chapter 4!

Looking ahead:  Chapters 5 and 6 are due on Monday.  The book must be finished by December 14.

Wednesday, December 2

Students were given the period to read Chapters 3 and 4 of The Great Gatsby.  They are due tomorrow.

Tuesday, December 1

Class began with a “quick quiz” to check for the reading of Chapter 2.  Next, we completed a group activity in which students examined eight of the characters in Chapter 2.  Vocabulary flashcards were also checked.
