Friday, February 26

Students took the Vocab Lesson 10 quiz and a reading check quiz over ch. 15-17. We began discussing ch. 15-17 and will finish on Monday. Homework: “All American Rejects” song & questions

Wednesday, February 24

Today students did a small group activity. They read what their classmates think of Holden’s character so far, and responded. They also reviewed lesson 10 vocabulary and had reading time.

Homework: Ch. 15 & 16 due tomorrow, study lesson 10 vocabulary.

Monday, February 22

To continue our focus of “Is Holden Relevant?” students listened and responded to an NPR interview titled: “Holden Caulfield: Giving Voice to Generations.” We also went over lesson 10 vocabulary. Notecards/tri-folds are due on Wednesday.

Due tomorrow: Chapter 13 & 14

Thursday, February 18

Today students continued to work on the “Why Holden Matters” packet and discussion questions. We then discussed his relevancy to their generation. Students began reading their assigned homework at the end of the class.

Homework: Read ch 11 & 12, and write journal #2 (1/2 pg. reader response)

Wednesday, February 17

Students discussed why Holden’s story was relevant in the past and if it is still relevant today. They worked in small groups, reading quotes and answering questions. They will be working on this tomorrow as well.

Homework: Read the “Is Holden Relevant” article and write a 1/2 page response to it.

Tuesday, February 16

Today students took a quiz over Ch 9 & 10 and handed in their first journal assignment. After discussing 9&10, students were given a packet with quotes explaining why Holden has been viewed as important in the past, and why he may/may not be relevant today. We will discuss these in class tomorrow.

Homework: Read and answer the discussion questions from the J.D. Salinger Tribute article, from Rolling Stone.

Wednesday, February 10

Today we discussed Ch. 4 & 5 in class. We also reviewed vocabulary for lesson 9. Notecards were due today.

Students need to have through Chapter 6 read for tomorrow. There will be a Reading Check quiz tomorrow over Ch. 4-6.

Friday there will be a quiz over Ch. 7-8. Students were given a worksheet over 7/8 that is due Friday. There will also be a vocabulary quiz on Friday.

Monday February 8

Students handed in Chapter 3 assignment and then took the Chapter 1-3 Reading Check quiz. We went over the weekly plan, and discussed the bulletin board. We discussed new vocabulary for lesson 9. Notecards/tri-folds are due Wednesday for lesson 9 vocab. Students need to read Chapters 4&5 for tomorrow.

Wednesday, February 3

Ms. Hoke began the Catcher in the Rye unit today. Students were given a book, a Unit Plan, and a character list. The character list is due at the end of the unit, but it is suggested that students complete the list while they read. Students then worked in small groups on a pre-reading activity that discussed the themes/issues that arise in the novel.

Due tomorrow: Literary circle/Running Brave final paper (along with rough draft and peer edit sheet)

Due Friday: Chapters 1&2
